Intro to Solid Foods

I fed Asher his first solid food yesterday.

Following a recipe from Baby Food 101.com, I went to my local organic market and bought a bag of short grain brown rice. I took it home and turned it into powder with the help of my new blender. Then slowly added it to boiling water. Then when it looked like Malt-o-Meal I put it on simmer for a few minutes and added some of my own milk.

He loved it. I should have taken the advice I got about strapping him into the chair in nothing but a diaper, but hey, that’s why they make washing machines and wet wipes, right? (I’ll post a video on this post later.)

Even the dog loved it. I put a little on his dog food.

Asher just recently turned four months old. My doctor said I could start at four months. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends starting solid foods at six months. So does BabyFood101.com (BEST SITE EVER!) However there are several factors that made me decide to feed him earlier. That was my choice. You have to decide for yourself.

Check out these articles and sites to decide. Baby Food 101 is super informative.

    • Color me jealous! I have a blender but so far it’s been mushy foods like banana, avocado, peas, etc. plus some baby food because I hate hate hate sweet potatoes and squash so I just buy organic. Did you check out Babyfood101.com? They have recipes and tell you which fruits to buy organic etc Super helpful.
